King Arthur’s Labyrinth provides an exciting learning environment resulting in creative discussion and follow up work.  The adventure offers opportunities for integrating different areas of the Curriculum in both England and Wales especially history, geography, Welsh and English.

For Schools following the Curriculum in Wales, King Arthur's Labyrinth fits with the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 in the following areas:

English: Provides an exciting multi-media environment to develop oracy skills, complete with narration, tableaux, lighting and sound effects.  The Labyrinth provides an environment which helps develop a learner's understanding of the cultural identity unique to Wales.

Geography: Provides a fieldwork opportunity to investigate the causes and consequenses of an environmental change. The vast caverns of King Arthur's Labyrinth are the surviving workings of the Braich Goch Slate Mine which operated between 1836 and 1970.

For Schools following the Curriculum in England, King Arthur's Labyrinth fits with the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 in the following areas:

English: Provides an exciting multi-media environment to develop oracy skills, complete with narration, tableaux, lighting and sound effects. It provides a perfect fit with myths, legends and traditional stories.  Many stories about King Arthur, and other ancient Welsh legends, are told throughout the visit.

Geography: Provides a working example to help learner's understand and recognise physical and human processes.  The Labyrinth also provides a good example for studying environmental change and the changing distribution of economic activity. The vast caverns of King Arthur's Labyrinth are the surviving workings of the Braich Goch Slate Mine which operated between 1836 and 1970.

History: Within the Key Stage 2 History curriculum King Arthur's Labyrinth fits with the Myths and Legends requirement of the Romans, Anglo-Saxons & Vikings in Britain programme of study.  The Arthur we tell of is a Dark Age warrior fighting the Saxon invader to bring peace to the Island of Britain.

An Activity Pack (published by Domino Books, £2.00) is available based on King Arthur’s Labyrinth. Our own booklet, "King Arthur’s Labyrinth" (£2.00), provides a more advanced historical background. Secondary pupils and college students will find that the presentation lends itself to further work in the social studies and literature curriculum.
